An apparatus and method for burnishing compact discs to remove scratches and other blemishes therefrom includes a table upon which is fixed a platform set into which are one or more rotatable platters each disposed to accept a single compact disc. A burnishing assembly is pivotally mounted to the table enabling the burnishing assembly to be raised and lowered. The burnishing assembly includes a frame, a plurality of cylindrical rollers and a drive motor. In operation, a roll of burnishing material is carried on the feed roller and follows a path around the burnishing assembly so that when the burnishing assembly is in its lowered and locked position the burnishing material is engaged in frictional contact with the exposed surfaces of the rotating compact discs. Provision is also made to advance the burnishing material across the face of the rotating compact discs and impart a reciprocating motion to the burnishing assembly in order to enhance the burnishing operation. A method of removing scratches and blemishes from compact discs is provided using the herein described apparatus. Furthermore, a method by which a large quantity of damaged compact discs can be repaired in an economical and commercial basis is also provided.
Appareil et méthode pour le polissage des disques compacts afin d'éliminer les égratignures et les autres irrégularités, comprenant une table sur laquelle est fixée une plate-forme avec un ou plusieurs plateaux tournants, chacun pouvant recevoir un disque compact. L'ensemble de polissage est monté de manière pivotante sur la table de sorte que l'ensemble de polissage puisse être relevé et abaissé. L'ensemble de polissage comprend un bâti, une pluralité de rouleaux cylindriques et un moteur d'entraînement. Durant le fonctionnement, le rouleau de matériau de polissage est amené au rouleau d'alimentation et suit un parcours autour de l'ensemble de polissage de sorte que lorsque l'ensemble de polissage est dans sa position abaissée et verrouillée, le matériau de polissage frotte sur les surfaces apparentes des disques compacts tournants. Une disposition est également prévue pour l'avance du matériau de polissage sur la face des disques compacts tournants et l'ensemble de polissage décrit un mouvement alternatif de manière à rendre le polissage plus efficace. Un méthode est prévue pour l'élimination des égratignures et des irrégularités des disques compacts à l'aide de la machine décrite dans la présente invention. Une méthode est en outre prévue suivant laquelle une grande quantité de disques compacts endommagés peuvent être réparés économiquement, à grande échelle.
