ABSTRACT For a pump station having at least one pump, a method and apparatus are provided for calculating the flow rate through the pumping station, including providing for each pump and for each combination of pumps an oscillator circuit of which the output frequency may be adjusted. The output frequency of each oscillator circuit is adjusted to represent the pump rate for the pump or pump combination to which that oscillator circuit corresponds. While operating the pumping station, the output frequency of that oscillator circuit which corresponds to the pump or combination of pumps which is operating at any given time is fed to a totalizing device. The total in the totalizing device is incremented by a given amount for each pulse encountered, whereby the totalizing device is continuously updated.
