A method and apparatus is provided for applying a plaster-like coating material to the decorative exposed surface of a preform workpiece (12). The apparatus comprises: means (26, 28) for mechanically advancing a workpiece (12) along the apparatus along a straight horizontal axis over a non- continuous surface (24); means (32, 34, 38, 40, 42) for engaging the bottom portion of a workpiece (12) to constrain lateral and vertical movement as the workpiece (12) passes along the apparatus; and means (46) for applying a desired thickness of plaster-like coating material (52) to a decorative surface of an advancing workpiece (12). Both the method an apparatus provide on a consistent basis, a smooth coating with a controlled thickness tightly bonded to the entire exposed decorative surface of a workpiece. The method and apparatus provide a simple, efficient, cost effective and reliable means for applying a plaster-like coating to the exposed decorative surface of a workpiece for use on a commercial scale in the construction industry.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour appliquer un matériau de revêtement du type enduit sur la surface apparente décorative d'une pièce préformée (12). L'appareil comporte des moyens (26, 28) pour faire avancer mécaniquement une pièce (12) le long d'un axe horizontal rectiligne sur une surface non continue (24), des moyens (32, 34, 38, 40, 42) destinés à venir en contact avec la portion inférieure d'une pièce (12) pour imprimer un mouvement latéral et vertical à mesure que la pièce (12) passe le long de l'appareil, et des moyens (46) permettant d'appliquer une épaisseur désirée de matériau de revêtement du type enduit (52) sur une surface décorative d'une pièce (12) qui avance. Ce procédé et cet appareil assurent, sur une base régulière, un revêtement uni, d'une épaisseur contrôlée, et étroitement lié à toute la surface décorative apparente d'une pièce. Ce procédé et cet appareil constituent un moyen simple, efficace, rentable et fiable pour appliquer un revêtement du type enduit sur la surface décorative apparente d'une pièce s'utilisant à l'échelle industrielle dans la construction.
