The fiber-coating concentricity of a coated optical fiber is controlled by non- axisymmetrically heating the coating material in the sizing die (40) with respect to the z-axis along which the fiber (47) is drawn. By controlling the temperature profile and thus the viscosity profile of the coating material, the amount of coating material applied to each azimuthal position of the fiber is controlled as it exits the sizing die (40). The apparatus that provides the desired temperature profile can also be employed to control the coating diameter.

On régule la concentricité du revêtement d'une fibre optique en chauffant de manière non axisymétrique la matière de revêtement dans la filière de calibrage par rapport à l'axe des Z le long duquel la fibre est étirée. En régulant le profil de température ainsi que celui de la viscosité de la matière de revêtement, la quantité de matière appliquée à chaque position azimutale de la fibre est régulée au moment où elle sort de la filière de calibrage. L'appareil qui donne le profil de température désiré peut également être employé pour réguler le diamètre de revêtement.
