A method of encoding invisible identification code into an image, which is highly resistant to degradation across communications links, and which does not require the presence of the original image for decoding, comprises analysing the image and determining strongly featured regions such as edges, and inserting code into such regions by altering the structure of the image in a predictable manner, as for example a concave elliptical insert centered on and aligned with an edge, which alteration is not visible to the eye. When decoding, areas of concavity are determined, and a correlation is performed with a predicted insert function to assess whether code has been inserted. A hardware embodiment is described.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de codage permettant d'insérer des informations d'identification codées invisibles à l'intérieur d'une image, ce procédé offrant une grande résistance à la dégradation sur des lignes de communication et ne nécessitant pas la présence de l'image originale au moment du décodage. Ce procédé consiste à analyser l'image et à déterminer des régions présentant de fortes caractéristiques telles que les bords, et à insérer des informations codées à l'intérieur desdites régions par modification prévisible de l'image, comme par exemple une insertion elliptique concave centrée sur, ou alignée avec un bord, cette modification n'étant pas visible à l'oeil nu. Lors du décodage, on détermine les zones de concavité, et l'on effectue une corrélation avec une fonction d'insertion prédite pour vérifier si de l'information codée a été insérée. Cette invention traite également d'un mode de réalisation matériel.
