Abstract of the Disclosure A method and apparatus for collecting and preparation articles to be reused has a casing and comprises a gaming machine, a return device and a collecting container. Articles, such as empty cans, are introduced into the return device. By operating an operating lever of the gaming machine, the size and weight of the article is initially checked. If these are found to be appropriate, the article is supplied to a press, where its volume is reduced and it is then released into the collecting container. On operating the operating lever, a chance to win is ensured to the user supplying the article. As a result of a gambling instinct of most human beings, this should bring about a very extensive return of articles to be reused.
