Methods and apparatuses for discriminating matter utilizing dielectrophoresis combined with magnetophoresis. A sample having one or more constituents is injected into an inlet port of a chamber. A carrier medium flow is initiated at the inlet port to establish flow within the chamber. A dielectrophoretic force is generated to act on the constituents of the sample. A magnetophoretic force is generated to act on the constituents of the sample. The dielectrophoretic force and magnetophoretic forces are balanced to position the constituents within the chamber. The constituents are then collected at one or more outlet ports of the chamber according to the dielectric and magnetic characteristics of the constituents. The constituents may be collected as a function of time-of-exit from the chamber and/or position within the chamber.
La présente invention concerne des procédés et des dispositifs permettant de discriminer du matériau en combinant l'utilisation de la magnétophorèse et l'utilisation de la diélectrophorèse. A cet effet, on injecte dans un orifice d'entrée d'une chambre un échantillon fait d'un ou de plusieurs constituants. A l'orifice d'entrée, on crée un courant de milieu vecteur de façon à établir un courant à l'intérieur de la chambre. On génère une force diélectrophorétique de façon à agir sur les constituants de l'échantillon. On génère une force magnétophorétique de façon à agir sur les constituants de l'échantillon. La force diélectrophorétique et les forces magnétophorétiques sont équilibrées de façon à positionner les constituants à l'intérieur de la chambre. On recueille ensuite les constituants par l'un au moins des orifices de la chambre selon les caractéristiques diélectriques et magnétiques des constituants. Le recueil des constituants peut se faire en fonction du temps de sortie à partir de la chambre et/ou de la position à l'intérieur de la chambre.
