ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for compensating for variations in subscribers apparatus and individual line lengths by measuring during the set up period of a call, the voltage variation across the feed at constant current. This voltage variation is then used, by application to a simple A/D converter, to provide a coarse digital evaluation of the line length.
