Molding material consisting of resin coated reinforcing fiber strands in a molten mass of resin is prepared at a molding site for controlled supply to a molding machine (64). Continuous strands (18, 20) of fiber from supply spools (2, 4) are entrained with pressurized, molten resin flowing through a coating device and coated with the resin. The movement of the fiber and resin through the coating die (200) may be controlled so as to accurately and predictably produce any desired quantity of the molding material by operating in a discontinuous manner. The receiving device (16) may be the feed screw (66) for an injection molding machine (64) or simply a plate movable to and from a compression molding machine. The fiber strands may be cut into predetermined lengths by a cutting device (92) positioned downstream of the aforesaid coating or conveying devices.

Des brins continus (18, 20) d'une fibre provenant de bobines d'alimentation (2, 4) sont entraînés avec la résine fondue, pressurisée qui s'écoule à travers un dispositif de revêtement et sont recouverts de résine. Il est possible de réguler le déplacement de la fibre et de la résine à travers la filière plate pour enduction (200), afin de produire de manière précise et prévisible une quantité souhaitée de matière à mouler, alors que l'on opère de façon discontinue. Le dispositif de réception (16) peut être la vis d'introduction (66) destinée à une machine à mouler par injection (64) ou simplement un plateau amovible par rapport à une machine à mouler à compression et amovible de cette dernière. Les brins de la fibre peuvent être coupés en portions de longueur prédéterminée par un dispositif de découpe (92) situé en aval des dispositifs d'acheminement et de revêtement susmentionnés.
