A new method and apparatus for music synthesis is provided. A chaotic system (4) is driven onto a periodic orbit by a compressed initialization code (22). A one-dimensional, periodic waveform (6) is then produced from the periodic orbit. A variety of periodic orbits produces a variety of sounds, which sounds approximate the sounds of different musical instruments (20). By sampling the amplitude of the periodic waveforms over time, a digital version of the sound is produced. The frequency and duration of a note to be synthesized are produced by sampling the periodic waveform at the proper rate (26) to produce the desired frequency and then repeating the waveform to produce a note of the required duration.
La présente invention concerne un nouveau procédé et un nouvel appareil permettant la synthèse de musique. Un système chaotique (4) est entraîné sur une orbite périodique, par un code d'initialisation compressé (22). Une forme d'onde périodique à une dimension (6) est ensuite produite, à partir de l'orbite périodique. Une variété d'orbites périodiques produit une variété de sons, qui approchent des sons de différents instruments de musique (20). L'échantillonnage de l'amplitude des formes d'onde périodiques dans le temps permet de produire une version numérique du son. La fréquence et la durée d'une note devant être synthétisée sont produites par échantillonnage de la forme d'onde périodique à la vitesse appropriée (26), afin de produire la fréquence souhaitée, puis par répétition de la forme d'onde, afin de produire une note de la durée exigée.
