A system and method for reducing power consumed by an integrated electronic device. The device (100) includes a personal data assistant (PDA) unit (20) and a wireless telephone (30) integrated in a common housing (10). A common display (40) on the housing is used for displaying messages from both the PDA and the wireless telephone to a user. A controller (32), coupled to the wireless telephone, places the wireless telephone in a power-off state after expiration of a predetermined period of time following cessation of voice traffic activity on the wireless telephone. The controller (32) switches the wireless telephone (30) from the power-off state to a power-on state if, during operation in the power-off state, a user begins an attempt to place an outgoing call with the wireless telephone. The wireless telephone is unable to receive an incoming call when the wireless telephone is in the power-off state. However, the PDA (20) is operable to receive information from the user through the display and display information to the user on the display (40) when the wireless telephone is in the power-off state.
Système et procédé servant à limiter le courant consommé par un dispositif électronique intégré. Ce dispositif (100) comporte un assistant numérique (PDA) (20) et un téléphone sans fil (30) intégré dans un boîtier commun (10). On utilise un afficheur commun (40) sur le boîtier afin d'afficher des messages émis à la fois par l'assistant numérique et par le téléphone sans fil à l'attention de l'utilisateur. Un contrôleur (32) couplé au téléphone sans fil, coupe le courant de ce dernier après l'expiration d'une durée prédéterminée suivant la cessation d'un trafic vocal sur ce téléphone sans fil. Ce contrôleur (32) commute le téléphone sans fil (30) de l'état de coupure à l'état de marche si, pendant une opération en état de coupure, un utilisateur tente d'établir une communication de sortie avec le téléphone sans fil. Celui-ci ne peut pas recevoir d'appel d'arrivée quand il est en état de coupure de courant. Cependant, l'assistant numérique (20) peut recevoir des informations de l'utilisateur par l'intermédiaire de l'afficheur et afficher ces informations à l'attention de l'utilisateur sur l'écran (40) quand le téléphone sans fil est en état de coupure de courant.
