ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for generating addresses for a distanced vector address or a constant stride vector address. The address generator generates the requested address indices following an equation c.D = 1(mod B) where B is the bank number of the memory device, D is the distance of the vector address and c is a positive integer called as delta index. By doing so, the requested addresses are successively generated in order of bank addresses of a memory device which stores the vector address. So, the waiting time which has been necessary for skipping the banks form one address to next address in prior art distanced vector access method has been eliminated. And the throughput of the memory device is improved to a greater extent.
