A container system (10A) including a vessel (20A) for holding a thixotropic semi-solid aluminum alloy slurry during its processing as a billet (60A) and an ejection system for cleanly discharging the processed thixotropic semi- solid aluminum billet (60A). The crucible (20A) is preferably formed from a chemically and thermally stable material (such as graphite or a ceramic). The crucible (20A) defines a mixing volume (30A). The crucible ejection mechanism may include a movable bottom portion (22A) mounted on a piston (56A) or may include a solenoid coil for inducing an electromotive force in the electrically conducting billet for urging it from the crucible (20A). During processing, a molten aluminum alloy precursor is transferred into the crucible and vigorously stirred and controlledly cooled to form a thixotropic semi- solid billet (60A). Once the billet (60A) is formed, the ejection mechanism is activated to discharge the billet (60A) from the crucible (20A). The billet (60A) is discharged into a shot sleeve and immediately placed in a mold and molded into a desired form.
Cette invention a trait à un ensemble contenant (10A) comportant une cuve (20), renfermant un coulis d'alliage d'aluminium thixotropique semi-solide durant sa transformation en billettes (60A), et un système d'éjection déchargeant convenablement les billettes d'aluminium thixotropique semi-solide traitées (60A). Le creuset (20A) est, de préférence, fait d'un matériau stable du point de vue chimique et thermique (tel que du graphite ou de la céramique). Ce creuset (20A) définit un volume de mélange (30A). Le mécanisme d'éjection du creuset peut comporter un fond mobile (22A) monté sur un piston (56A) ou peut être pourvu d'une bobine de solénoïde aux fins de l'induction d'une force électromotrice dans les billettes électro-conductrices et ce, pour les dégager dudit creuset (20A). Durant le traitement, un précurseur d'alliage d'aluminium en fusion est introduit dans le creuset, agité vigoureusement et refroidi sous contrôle, afin de former une billette semi-solide thixotropique (60A). Une fois la billette (60A) formée, le mécanisme d'éjection est activé afin de décharger la billette (60A) du creuset (20A) dans une douille de coulée. La billette est alors immédiatement placée dans un moule et moulée à la forme souhaitée.
