ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for continuous casting of metal sheet in which pressure is applied to the interior of a roll with a negative crown so that the roll may maintain a true cylindrical surface without any crown when the continuous casting operation is initiated. When the cylindrical surface of the roll is heated by molten metal as the continuous casting operation continues, the interior pressure of the roll is decreased, whereby the roll may maintain a true cylindrical surface without any crown.
