ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Process and apparatus for the treatment of a paper web, which has been dried within the hygroscopic range, by utilizing a special treatment gas flow. The treatment gas flow is drawn through the web to be treated, the state of the treatment gas being adjusted to the equilibrium state subs- tantially consistent with the desired ultimate moisture content of the web (at least at the ultimate stage of the treatment), whereby the points of the web with higher moisture content than average dry out and/or the points which are drier than average gain in moisture content towards the stage of the treat- ment gas with the aid of the gas flow.
