A method and apparatus for controlling zebra mussels and other bivalves using UV light from a medium pressure UV lamp which is located in a chamber having therein water in which the bivalves may be located. The medium pressure UV lamp provides an intensity of UV light measured at a wavelength of 254 nm of at least approximately 6830 µW/cm2 in the water. The medium pressure' UV lamp provides a dose of UV light measured at a wavelength of 254 nm of at least approximately 0.1 W~sec/cm2 in the water.

Méthode et appareil pour contrôler les populations de moules zébrées et d'autres bivalves à l'aide du rayonnement UV produit par une lampe UV à pression moyenne qui est située dans une enceinte renfermant de l'eau dans laquelle les bivalves peuvent être présents. La lampe UV à pression moyenne donne une intensité de rayonnement UV mesurée à une longueur d'onde de 254 nm d'au moins environ 6 830 microW/cm2 dans l'eau. La lampe UV à pression moyenne donne une dose de rayonnement UV mesurée à une longueur d'onde de 254 nm d'au moins environ 0,1 W~sec/cm2 dans l'eau.
