The invention relates to a method for converting heat into mechanical work according to which, in a cyclic process, a working medium is compressed while giving off heat and is subsequently brought in thermal contact with the surroundings via a first heat exchanger (16), is then expanded while obtaining mechanical work whereupon the cyclic process is run through once more. A high degree of efficiency is achieved by virtue of the fact that the working medium, after expansion, is guided through another heat exchanger (18), which is situated inside a rapidly rotating rotor (13) and which, on the exterior thereof, is surrounded by at least one essentially annular gas space (17a, 17b, 17c, 17d) from whose exterior heat is dissipated. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out this method.

La présente invention concerne un procédé pour convertir de la chaleur en travail mécanique. Selon l'invention, un agent de travail est comprimé au cours d'un processus cyclique sous apport de chaleur, puis mis en contact thermique, par un premier échangeur thermique (16), avec l'environnement extérieur, ensuite détendu pour produire du travail mécanique, le processus cyclique étant réitéré en continu. On obtient un rendement élevé grâce au fait que l'agent de travail traverse, après détente, un autre échangeur thermique (18) qui est disposé à l'intérieur d'un rotor à rotation rapide (13) et qui est entouré sur son côté extérieur par au moins un compartiment à gaz sensiblement annulaire (17a, 17b, 17c, 17d) contre le côté extérieur duquel la chaleur est évacuée. L'invention a également pour objet un dispositif pour mettre en oeuvre le procédé.
