The present invention relates to a method of and apparatus for cooling a material, such as lime, treated in a rotary tubular kiln, in a cooler associated with the kiln. The cooler comprises at least one chamber, into the inlet of which hot material treated in the kiln drops from the kiln via a chute/chutes connecting the kiln and said chamber and forms a material bed in the lowermost portion of said chamber, and the material flows further countercurrently in relation to the cooling gas flow, discharging from the outlet end of the chamber. Material is circulated in the inlet end of the cooling chamber and material is returned thereto so that the material being circulated and the material being returned form at the position of the chute/chutes said layer, onto which the fresh hot material dropping from the kiln continuously forms a new bed and is mixed with the material being circulated and the material being returned.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un appareil de refroidissement d'un matériau, tel que la chaux, traité dans un four rotatif tubulaire, dans un refroidisseur associé au four. Le refroidisseur comporte au moins une chambre, dans l'orifice d'entrée de laquelle le matériau chaud traité dans le four est déversé du four par l'intermédiaire d'une goulotte ou des goulottes reliant le four et ladite chambre et constitue un lit de matériau dans la partie la plus basse de ladite chambre, et le matériau s'écoule en outre à contre-courant par rapport à l'écoulement de gaz de refroidissement, refoulé depuis l'extrémité de sortie de la chambre. On fait circuler du matériau dans l'extrémité d'entrée de la chambre de refroidissement et on effectue un recyclage de matériau vers celle-ci de sorte que le matériau en circulation et le matériau recyclé constituent à l'emplacement de la goulottes/des goulottes ladite couche, sur laquelle le matériau frais déversé depuis le four constitue un nouveau lit et se trouve mélangé au matériau en circulation et au matériau recyclé.
