This invention relates to a novel submerged combustion heating system. More particularly, this invention relates to a novel method and apparatus for cooling the combustion chamber of a submerged combustion system. The submerged combustion system can be installed singly or in combination with other similar submerged combustion systems to heat large quantities of liquids and solutions. This invention is directed to a submerged combustion system comprising: (a) tank means for holding liquid, the tank means having a liquid inlet and a liquid outlet, and an exhaust gas outlet; (b) combustion chamber means positioned in at least a portion of the interior of the tank means; (c) means in the combustion chamber for enabling fuel and air to be introduced into the combustion chamber and being ignited to create a hot gaseous combustion product; (d) port means located in the combustion chamber means for enabling the hot gaseous combustion product to be exhausted from the interior of the combustion chamber into the tank means; (e) means for controlling the level of liquid in the tank means so that the hot gaseous combustion product passes through the liquid and the liquid heated by the hot gaseous combustion product is withdrawn from the tank means, and unheated liquid is introduced into the tank means through the liquid inlet; and (f) cooling liquid means located at the upper region of the combustion chamber, the combustion chamber which extends above the level of the liquid in the tank means being cooled by a cooling water which is introduced into the cooling liquid means in the top region of the combustion chamber, and spills over the top edges of the combustion chamber and runs down the outer walls of the combustion chamber until the cooling liquid reaches the top level of the liquid being heated by the hot gaseous combustion product.
L'invention a trait à un nouveau système de chauffage par combustion avec immersion; plus particulièrement une méthode et un appareil novateurs de refroidissement de la chambre de combustion d'un système de chauffage avec immersion. Le système peut être installé seul ou en association avec un ou d'autres systèmes de combustion avec immersion semblables pour chauffer de grandes quantités de liquides et de solutions. L'invention vise des systèmes de combustion avec immersion comprenant : a) un réservoir de rétention du liquide, ce réservoir comportant un orifice d'entrée et un orifice de sortie du liquide et un orifice d'échappement des gaz; b) une chambre de combustion placée dans au moins une partie de l'intérieur du réservoir; c) un dispositif placé dans la chambre de combustion pour permettre d'introduire le combustible et l'air dans la chambre de combustion et d'inflammer ce mélange pour créer un produit de combustion gazeux chaud; d) des orifices aménagés dans la chambre de combustion pour permettre au produit de combustion gazeux chaud de passer de la chambre de combustion au réservoir; e) un dispositif de réglage du niveau du liquide dans le réservoir de sorte que le gaz chaud passe dans le liquide; le liquide ainsi chauffé est retiré du réservoir et remplacé par du liquide non chauffé qui pénètre par l'orifice d'entrée du liquide; et f) un dispositif de refroidissement du liquide placé dans la partie supérieure de la chambre de combustion, laquelle s'avance au-dessus du niveau de liquide se trouvant dans le réservoir et qui est refroidi par une eau de refroidissement. Cette eau est introduite dans le liquide de refroidissement par la partie supérieure de la chambre de combustion, déborde par-dessus les bords supérieurs de la chambre de combustion puis coule vers le bas le long des parois de la chambre jusqu'à ce qu'il atteigne le niveau supérieur du liquide chauffé par le gaz chaud.
