ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention discloses a method and apparatus for cooling hot foundry sand. The method includes the step of adding water to the hot sand with the quantity of water being related to the Btu content of the sand, vibrating the sand/water mix in a closed container, evacuating the container to evaporate the water and cool the sand, and then removing the cooled sand from the container. Apparatus for carrying out the foregoing steps is also disclosed.
