In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, an analog to digital conversion system suitably includes an encoder producing one or more streams of digital data, each stream optionally including a digital timecode that corresponds to the timecode on the original analog tape. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, a high-resolution digital stream is maintained in a first digital medium for archival purposes. A second, low- resolution video stream is optionally provided to a search engine that includes a database of content information. The database is configured to allow users to search the low-resolution stream for a particular video segment and to view the segment from either the high or low-resolution video streams based upon their common, synchronized digital timecodes.
L'invention porte dans l'une de ses exécutions sur un système de conversion A/N comportant un codeur produisant un ou plusieurs flux de données numériques comportant chacun facultativement un code temps numérique correspondant au code temps de la bande analogique originale. Selon l'un des aspects de l'invention, on conserve dans un premier support numérique à des fins d'archivage un flux numérique à haute résolution, puis on fournit facultativement à un moteur de recherche un deuxième flux vidéo à basse résolution comportant une base de données d'informations de contenu. Ladite base de données est configurée pour permettre aux utilisateurs de rechercher dans le flux à basse résolution un segment vidéo particulier et de le visionner soit à partir du flux à haute résolution, soit à partir du flux à basse résolution, compte tenu de leurs codes temps numériques synchronisés communs.
