The present invention pertains to an apparatus for cryosurgery. The apparatus comprises a cryo-needle (1) having a diameter less than 3.2 mm. The apparatus is also comprised of a thermal insulation shell (5) disposed about a portion of the cryo-needle for reduction of heat transfer from surrounding tissues, or freezing prevention of surrounding tissues during application of the cryo- needle with the shell. The cryo-needle and shell are configured for insertion into a body of a patient. The present invention pertains to a method for freezing tissues. The method comprises the steps of bringing into contact a cryo-needle having a diameter of less than 3.2 mm with a patient's body. Next, there is the step of flowing the cryo-fluid through the cryo-needle.

La présente invention concerne un appareil de cryochirurgie pourvu, non seulement d'une aiguille cryogénique (1) d'un diamètre inférieur à 3,2 mm, mais également d'une enveloppe d'isolation thermique (5) entourant une partie de l'aiguille cryogénique. Cette enveloppe sert à réduire les transferts thermiques en provenance des tissus environnants, ou à empêcher la congélation des tissus environnants pendant l'application de l'aiguille cryogénique disposée dans l'enveloppe. La conformation de l'aiguille cryogénique et de son enveloppe est conçue de façon à en permettre l'introduction dans le corps d'un patient. L'invention concerne également un procédé de congélation des tissus consistant à mettre en contact avec le corps d'un patient une aiguille cryogénique d'un diamètre inférieur à 3,2 mm puis à faire circuler le fluide cryogénique dans l'aiguille cryogénique.
