An improved method for cutting a wall of a tube, comprising providing a die assembly having a portion with a die longitudinal axis and defining a tube- receiving cavity having a cavity longitudinal axis parallel to the die longitudinal axis; and having a cutting aperture transverse of the longitudinal axes; positioning and restraining the tube within the cavity; advancing a cutting blade along a blade axis through the cutting aperture transverse to the wall to cut through the wall; the improvement comprising, wherein, the cavity in cross-section transverse to the cavity longitudinal axis defines an ellipse having an x-axis parallel to the blade axis and of longer length than its y-axis.
