A method and apparatus in a wireless communications system for presenting a calling party name to a mobile station within the wireless communications system. A communications signal is received from a network to initiate a call to a mobile station within the wireless communications system. Next, a determination is made as to whether the mobile station is provisioned to receive calling party names in response to receiving the communications signal. A calling party name is either identified using a database located within the wireless communications system or the calling party name is received as part of the initial call setup signal. Then, the calling party name is sent to the mobile station over the air interface in response to identifying the calling party name.

Procédé et appareil permettant de présenter le nom d'un appelant à une station mobile dans un système de communication sans fil. Un signal de communication est reçu en provenance d'un réseau et est destiné à établir un appel vers une station mobile au sein dudit système. Ensuite, une détermination est opérée pour savoir si la station mobile est équipée pour recevoir les noms d'appelants en réponse à la réception du signal de communication. Le nom d'un appelant est soit identifié à l'aide d'une base de données située au sein du système de communication sans fil, soit reçu comme faisant partie intégrante du signal initial d'établissement d'appel. Le nom de l'appelant est alors envoyé à la station mobile par les airs en réponse à l'identification du nom de l'appelant.
