Biohazardous needles, in one embodiment, are destroyed by the application of an electrical arc that progressively destroys the needle and seals hollow needles. An elongated electrode that slopes up and away from the needle supports is used to strike and then progressively support the destructive arc. In another embodiment, an electrical arc is used to blunt the sharp end of the needle by melting it and allowing it to solidify into a spherical cap.

Dans un mode de réalisation, les aiguilles présentant un risque biologique sont détruites par application d'un arc électrique détruisant progressivement l'aiguille et scellant les aiguilles creuses. Une électrode allongée effectuant un mouvement de va-et-vient le long des supports d'aiguille est utilisée pour frapper puis progressivement supporter l'arc destructif. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, un arc électrique est utilisé pour épointer l'extrémité de l'aiguille selon un procédé consistant à faire fondre celle-ci, puis à la laisser se solidifier et adopter une forme sphérique.
