A process mass flow instrument for measuring the mass flow rate of a process fluid including a fluid inlet, a fluid outlet, a flow passage connecting the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet, a fluid flow sensor which provides a raw output signal corresponding to an unknown mass flow rate and a processor which contains an empirically derived conversion routine for converting the raw output signal to an adjusted signal indicating the mass flow rate of the process fluid. A method for determining an unknown mass flow using an empirically derived conversion function, the function being derived by correlating the output signals of a mass flow instrument sensing the flow of a calibration fluid with the output signals of the mass flow instrument sensing the flow of the process fluid.

Instrument à débit massique de traitement conçu pour mesurer le débit massique d'un liquide de traitement. Il est constitué des éléments suivants : une entrée de liquide; une sortie de liquide; une canalisation reliant l'entrée et la sortie de liquide; un capteur de débit de liquide fournissant un signal de sortie brut associé à un débit massique inconnu; et un processeur contenant une routine de conversion, obtenue empiriquement, destinée à convertir le signal de sortie brut en un signal ajusté fournissant le débit massique du liquide de traitement. Une méthode permet de déterminer un débit massique inconnu à l'aide d'une fonction de conversion obtenue empiriquement, fonction qui est obtenue en mettant en corrélation les signaux de sortie de l'instrument de débit massique détectant le débit du liquide d'étalonnage et les signaux de sortie de l'instrument à débit massique détectant le débit du liquide de traitement.
