ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a method and a device for detecting and identifying liquid, solid and gaseous contaminants, as well as for identifying and checking the purity of beverages or residues of beverages, in reusable bottles and in particular in plastic bottles and other containers. The invention is characterized by the use of electromagnetic radiation which is passed at least once through the wall of the bottle or container, and areas containing residual liquid, areas containing films of liquids or solids on the inner walls of the bottle or container, and contamination sites in the material of the wall are scanned by the electromagnetic radiation.
