A method and apparatus (400) for measuring very low light signals including integrating a signal from a photo diode (130), avalanche photo diode, photomultiplier tube or the like, digitally sampling the integrator output (210) more than two times during each integration period, fitting a curve to the multiple digitized readings (530) to calculate the integration slope (510, 530) for each integration period and determining the original signal from the calculated integration slope.

La présente invention concerne un procédé et un appareil (400) permettant de mesurer les signaux lumineux de très faible niveau consistant d'abord à intégrer un signal d'une photodiode (130), d'une photodiode à avalanche, d'un tube photomultiplicateur ou d'un dispositif similaire, procéder ensuite à un échantillonnage numérique du signal d'intégration (210) à plusieurs reprises pendant la période d'intégration, établir une courbe représentant les différentes lectures numériques (530) afin de calculer la pente d'intégration (510, 530) pour chaque période d'intégration, et enfin, déterminer le signal original à partir de la pente d'intégration calculée.
