METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTING METAL WIPE DAMAGE IN A BUSH OR LIKE BEARING Abstract of the Disclosure Method and apparatus are disclosed for detecting metal wipe damage in bushes or like bearings. Metal wipe generates ultrasonic signals that are characterized by being substantially periodic. Metal wipe damage can there- fore be detected by monitoring the periodicity of such ultrasonic signals. The ultrasonic signals are generated by a transducer fixed to the bush or bearing. The period- icity of the received ultrasonic signals is computed by a processing unit so as to output a metal wipe signal when the received ultrasonic signals are substantially periodic.
