Methods and devices are provided for detecting the application of a fluid sample onto a test strip surface when the test strip is inserted into an optical meter. In the subject methods, reflectance data is obtained from a portion of the optical meter in which the sample application region of the test strip is located, where the reflectance data covers a period of time ranging from a point at least prior to application of the sample to the strip to a point following application of the sample to the strip. The presence of the fluid sample on the test strip is then determined from the reflectance data. Also provided are optical meters that include optical means for obtaining reflectance data, where these optical means include at least an irradiation source and a light detector. The subject methods and devices find use with a variety of test strips, and are particularly suited for use with test strips that include a fluid movement means, such as a compressible bladder.
L'invention concerne des procédés et des dispositifs permettant de détecter l'application d'un échantillon fluidique sur une surface de bande d'essai lorsqu'on introduit cette bande dans un dispositif de mesure optique. Dans ces procédés, on obtient des données de réflexion à partir d'une partie du dispositif de mesure optique sur laquelle se situe une région d'application d'échantillon de la bande d'essai, les données de réflexion couvrant une plage temporelle comprise entre un point précédent l'application de l'échantillon sur la bande à un point suivant l'application dudit échantillon sur ladite bande. La présence de l'échantillon fluidique sur la bande d'essai est ensuite déterminée à partir des données de réflexion. L'invention concerne également des dispositifs de mesure optique comprenant des moyens optiques qui permettent d'obtenir des données de réflexion, ces moyens optiques comprenant au moins une source de rayonnement et un détecteur de lumière. Ces procédés et dispositifs s'utilisent avec une variété de bandes d'essai, et conviennent parfaitement pour des bandes d'essai comprenant des moyens de déplacement fluidique, tels qu'une vessie compressible.
