A method and apparatus for determination of properties of a medium of food or feed, such as the fat content of meat, by use of dual X-ray absorptiometry, the medium being a raw material of food or feed, a product or intermediary product of food or feed, or a batch, sample or section of the same, specifically for online use in a slaughter house. The method comprises scanning substantially all of the medium by X-ray beams (16, 18) having at least two energy levels, including a low level and a high level, detecting the X-ray beams having passed through the medium for a plurality of areas (pixels) of the medium, for each area calculating a value, A low, representing the absorption in the area of the medium at the low energy level, for each area calculating a value, A high representing the absorption in the area of the medium at the high energy level. The accuracy of the determination is improved considerably by generating for each area a plurality of values being products of the type A low n * A high m wherein n and m are positive and/or negative integers or zero, and predicting the properties of the medium in this area by applying a calibration model to the plurality of values, wherein the calibration model defines relations between the plurality of values and properties of the medium.
L'invention porte sur un procédé et un appareil de détermination d'un milieu d'aliments pour l'homme et les animaux tel que la teneur en matière grasse de la viande par double absorptiométrie des rayons X, ce milieu étant une matière première, un produit ou produit intermédiaire d'aliment pour l'homme ou les animaux, ou bien encore un lot, échantillon ou partie de cet aliment, et spécifiquement destiné à être utilisé en ligne dans un abattoir. Le procédé consiste à balayer pratiquement tout le milieu par des faisceaux de rayons X (16, 18) possédant au moins deux niveaux d'énergie tels qu'un niveau bas et un niveau élevé, détecter les faisceaux de rayons X qui ont traversé le milieu dans une pluralité de zones (pixels) du milieu, une valeur, Abas, étant calculée pour chaque zone et représentant l'absorption dans la zone du milieu à niveau d'énergie bas, une valeur, Aélevé, représentant l'absorption dans la zone du milieu à niveau d'énergie élevé. On améliore considérablement la précision de la détermination en générant pour chaque zone une pluralité de valeurs qui sont des produits du type Abas<n> * Aélevé<m>, n et m étant des nombres entiers positifs et/ou négatifs ou zéro et en évaluant les propriétés du milieu dans cette zone par application d'un modèle de calibrage sur la pluralité de valeurs, le modèle de calibrage définissant des relations entre la pluralité de valeurs et les propriétés du milieu.
