ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for determining dimension of an article such as the width or thickness of a plate or slab produced in a steel mill is disclosed. At least two cameras (10), (12) are used to view two points (A) and (B) of the slab. The two points (A) and (B) are displaced by a known distance such as the thickness of the slab or the arc of a corner radius of the slab and from the known relationship between the two points location in space of the points is determined to enable the-dimension of the article between the points to be calculated.
