A method and apparatus for evaluating a driver's performance under actual real-time conditions to determine the driver's ability to safely operate a vehicle, utilizes the information that is gathered by a radar system (200, 210) and other sensors (4a), together with information previously stored in an event recording device (5). Conditions monitored are used to make a determination as to whether the driver is performing in conformity with normal driving standards and the driver's own past performance. The driver's performance is constantly monitored and compared to that driver's past performance to determine whether the driver's present performance is impaired, and if so, whether the impairment is detrimental to the driver's ability to safely operate the vehicle.
L'invention se rapporte à un procédé et un appareil servant à évaluer la capacité d'un conducteur dans les conditions présentes en temps réel afin de déterminer son aptitude à conduire sans risque un véhicule. Cet appareil utilise les informations qui sont recueillies par un système radar (200, 210) et autres détecteurs (4a), ainsi que d'autres informations enregistrées antérieurement dans un appareil d'enregistrement d'évènements (5). Les conditions contrôlées sont utilisées pour déterminer si le conducteur conduit selon des normes de conduites standard et selon l'historique du conducteur. La conduite du conducteur est contrôlée en permanence et comparée à son historique afin de déterminer si la conduite actuelle du conducteur est moins bonne, et si c'est le cas, déterminer si elle nuit à son aptitude à conduire le véhicule sans risque.
