Method and apparatus for determining in a person's exhalation air the concentration of a specific substance in the blood by measuring the concentration of said substance and the concentration of water vapour in the exhalation air and utilizing a known relationship between these concentrations. When the method is applied the exhalation air is exhaled freely in a defined air volume having a predetermined composition, and said concentrations are measured in this air volume. The apparatus for working the method comprises a device (16) which defines a space for receiving the exhalation air, which has two mutually opposite openings through which the space communicates with the surrounding air, and means (18, 22, 23) for selective quantitative detection of said substance in the air in the defined space.
Procédé et appareil servant à déterminer dans l'air exhalé par une personne, la concentration d'une substance spécifique dans le sang, ce qui consiste à mesurer la concentration de ladite substance et la concentration de la vapeur d'eau dans l'air exhalé et à utiliser un rapport connu entre ces concentrations. D'après le procédé, l'air est exhalé librement selon un volume défini possédant une composition prédéterminée et lesdites concentrations sont mesurées dans le volume d'air. L'appareil servant à mettre ce procédé en application comprend un dispositif (16) définissant un espace servant à recevoir l'air exhalé et possédant deux ouvertures opposées l'une à l'autre à travers lesquelles l'espace communique avec l'air ambiant, ainsi que des moyens (18, 22, 23) servant à effectuer la détection sélective et quantitative de ladite substance dans l'air contenu dans l'espace défini.
