Method and apparatus for measuring levels of moisture in a sample, particularly plastic resins and articles such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) pellets/preforms/containers. A sample of the material/article is placed in an oven and heated while a flow of gas passing through the oven carries the moisture released by the sample and exits the oven as an output gas flow. Three measurements are made of the output gas flow -- namely temperature, relative humidity, and flow rate. From these measurements, the mass flow rate of the output gas flow is calculated in order to determine the moisture content released by the sample.
