A method of determining outdoor temperature is described. The method is based upon the fact that when a pane of glass in an exterior window is exposed on one side to an outdoor temperature and on another side to an indoor temperature, the indoor surface temperature of the pane of glass is a function of the relationship between the indoor temperature and the outdoor temperature. Firstly, measure the indoor surface temperature of a pane of glass in an exterior window and the indoor temperature adjacent the pane of glass. Secondly, perform calculations, based upon the indoor known surface temperature of the pane of glass and the known indoor temperature, to arrive at an outdoor temperature value.
