A method for determining the appearance of an object to be replicated and an apparatus therefor are described herein. The method consists in providing a controlled illumination to illuminate a surface of the object, measuring the object with a CCD camera to collect an image map of a plurality of points on the surface and processing that information to produce an appearance mapping of the object. Calibration of the apparatus is done by measuring calibration patches illuminated with the same illumination. When the apparatus is done in view of replicating the color of an object, a comparison can be done by similarly producing an appearance mapping of the replicate and by comparing it to the appearance mapping of the object.
Cette invention concerne un procédé permettant de déterminer l'apparence d'un objet à répliquer ainsi qu'un appareil permettent de mettre en oeuvre ce procédé. Ce procédé consiste à utiliser un éclairage commandé afin d'illuminer une surface de l'objet, à mesurer l'objet à l'aide d'une caméra CCD afin de recueillir une carte de type image de plusieurs points sur cette surface, et à traiter ces informations afin de produire un mappage de l'apparence de l'objet. L'étalonnage de l'appareil se fait par mesure de taches d'étalonnage qui sont illuminées à l'aide du même éclairage. Lorsque cet appareil a pour but de répliquer la couleur d'un objet, une comparaison peut être effectuée en produisant de manière similaire un mappage de l'apparence de la réplique, et en le comparant au mappage de l'apparence de l'objet.
