A method and apparatus are provided for determining rates and mechanisms of reactions in solution. The method comprises mixing reactants together and then passing the reactants, after mixing, to an electrospray or other ion source. The apparatus is configured so that the reaction time can be determined. This can either be by way of a capillary of known length and volume extending from a reaction tee or other mixing device, so that the reaction time can be determined from the capillary volume and flow rate, and/or by way of a container of fixed volume from which the reactants pass. From the ion source, ions pass into a mass spectrometer, where a mass spectrum is measured. By varying the reaction time, and measuring the different mass spectra, the rate of reaction can be determined.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant de déterminer les vitesses et les mécanismes de réaction dans une solution. Le procédé consiste à mélanger des réactifs puis à les faire passer dans un électro-pulvérisateur ou une autre source d'ions. L'appareil est configuré de façon que la durée de réaction puisse être déterminée au moyen d'un tube capillaire de longueur et de volume connus disposé dans le prolongement d'un té de réaction ou d'un autre dispositif de mélange, de façon que la durée de réaction puisse être déterminée à partir du volume et du débit du tube capillaire, et/ou au moyen d'un récipient de volume déterminé d'où partent les réactifs. En provenance de la source d'ions, les ions pénètrent dans un spectromètre de masse, où un spectre de masse est mesuré. En variant la durée de réaction et en mesurant les différents spectres de masse, on peut déterminer la vitesse de réaction.
