A method for determining the suitability of workpieces for machining. A workpiece (6) is probed with a non-contact type sensor (26) to produce a voltage reading corresponding to the mass of the workpiece. The reading is compared to a tolerance voltage range based on the mass of a reference workpiece and from this comparison it is determined whether the workpiece is an uncut or cut workpiece and if it is appropriate to machine the workpiece.

La présente invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant de déterminer l'aptitude à l'usinage de pièces. Le procédé consiste à sonder une pièce (6) au moyen d'un capteur de type sans contact (26) capable de délivrer une mesure de tension correspondant à la masse de la pièce. Cette mesure fait l'objet d'une comparaison avec une plage de tensions tolérées prenant en compte la masse d'une pièce de référence. Cette comparaison permet ensuite de déterminer si la pièce est déjà usinée ou non usinée, et donc s'il y a lieu d'usiner la pièce.
