In order to facilitate diffusive transfer of an entity such as a solute between immiscible fluids and subsequent separation of the liquids without mixing, method and apparatus are disclosed having first and second flow paths (1, 2) carrying first and second immiscible fluids on opposite sides of a foraminous sheet (8) wherein the height of the apertures (10) therein are not greater than 200 micrometers (measured perpendicular to the width of the sheet and to the direction of fluid flow), and a stable interface is formed between the fluids within each aperture, with a significant amount of fluid flow immediately adjacent the interface. Diffusive transfer takes place across the interface, and subsequently the fluids flow away from the region without mixing. The width of the flow paths measured perpendicular to sheet (8) lies between 10 and 500 micrometers. The walls of each aperture may be parallel or tapered.

Afin de faciliter le transfert par diffusion d'une substance, comme un soluté, entre des fluides non miscibles, et la séparation ultérieure des fluides sans mélange, l'invention propose une méthode et un appareil comportant un premier et un second circuits d'écoulement (1, 2), transportant le premier et le second fluides non miscibles sur les côtés opposés d'une feuille foraminée (8), dont la hauteur des ouvertures (10) n'est pas supérieure à 200 micromètres (mesurée perpendiculairement à la largeur de la feuille et à la direction de l'écoulement du fluide); une interface stable est formée entre les fluides à l'intérieur de chaque ouverture, une quantité significative d'écoulement de fluide se situant immédiatement à proximité de la surface. Un transfert par diffusion se produit via l'interface, les fluides s'écoulant et quittant ensuite la zone sans se mélanger. La largeur du circuit dans la région de l'interface, mesurée perpendiculairement à la feuille (8) se situe entre 10 et 500 micromètres. Les parois de chaque ouverture peuvent être parallèles ou coniques.
