Abstract Energetic efficiency in a system of gibbsitic bauxite digestion termed counter-current regenerative digestion can be improved significantly by the new method provided by the present invention characterized in submitting the flow of recycled spent liquor, preferably immediately prior to mixing, to at least one evaporation along its preheating path of flow while proceeding to mixing with the flow of ground bauxite. For performing the new improved method the invention provides for an apparatus wherein an evaporator unit is inserted into the preheating path of flow of the recycled spent liquor. The evaporator unit is arranged in said path of flow prior to but in the nearest possible proximity of the mixing point of the preheated liquor with the preferably also preheated flow of ground bauxite. The evaporator unit is heated by high-pressure hot steam introduced to the system from outside source for heating purposes.
