A traditional steam chest molding apparatus for the manufacture of products from expanded plastic materials requires excessive amounts of steam to properly expand and fuse pellets of plastic together A molding apparatus is provided wherein a pair of complementary molds (100, 300) are provided with a steam manifold (110) to introduce steam into the mold cavity by way of steam lines (160, 162, 164, 166) The steam manifold (110) allows for direct injection of steam into the manifold and hence a reduction in the total steam required for a molding operation The amount of steam necessary for the production of a particular article is predetermined in dependance upon a geometry and a size of the article to be produced Thus if desired, the amount of steam provided to the mold cavity is measured prior to injection
Les appareils classiques de moulage à cuve de vapeur pour la fabrication de produits en matières plastiques expansées nécessitent des quantités excessives de vapeur pour expanser et fusionner correctement les billes de plastique. On présente un appareil de moulage dans lequel une paire de moules complémentaires (100, 300) sont équipés d'un collecteur de vapeur (110) pour introduire de la vapeur dans la cavité du moule via des canalisations de vapeur (160, 162, 164, 166). Le collecteur de vapeur (110) permet l'injection directe de vapeur dans le collecteur et par conséquent une réduction de la quantité totale de vapeur requise pour une opération de moulage. La quantité de vapeur nécessaire pour la production d'un article particulier est prédéterminée en fonction de la géométrie et des dimensions de l'article à produire. Ainsi, si on le souhaite, la quantité de vapeur fournie à la cavité du moule est mesurée avant l'injection.
