ABSTRACT The driving of caisson pipe into the ground is effected by a cable system, powered by a bulldozer, a hydraulic jack or other means of applying force to the cable system. A simple pulley arrangement transfers force supplied by the force applying means into vertical compressive loading applied symmetrically against a crosshead, mounted in down-driving relation across the upper end of the caisson pipe. The necessary lower pulley blocks are secured to ground anchors. The anchors in turn are secured to tie rods that are set into the bedrock and grouted into position. The tie rods generally are pre-tensioned so as to preload the ground beneath the ground anchors to an acceptable extent, and to stabilize the system loading.
