In a method and an apparatus for drying a plurality of pieces of wood, in particular timber, wherein the pieces of wood are heated using microwave radiation and thereby dried, in order to achieve a particularly uniform drying, each piece of wood is supplied individually to a plurality of microwave generators which heat the piece of wood in sections. In each section, the drying parameters, in particular moisture and temperature are determined and from this the power of the microwave generator is determined in the following heating step. In this way, a particularly uniform drying is achieved.
