The invention provides a method and apparatus for electrodeionizing water, whereby the water to be purified is passed through diluting compartments in an electrodeionization unit having an anode compartment at one end of the unit and a cathode compartment at the other end of the unit, and a plurality of diluting compartments alternating with concentrating compartments defined by anion and cation exchange membranes. Each of the diluting compartments contains ion exchange material. Importantly, the ion exchange material comprises at least one mixed bed phase of anion exchange material and cation exchange material and at least one single phase, adjacent to the mixed bed phase, of anion exchange material or cation exchange material, or anion exchange and cation exchange material.
L'invention se rapporte à un procédé et à un appareil de désionisation électrique de l'eau. Selon ledit procédé, l'eau à purifier passe dans des compartiments de dilution d'une unité de désionisation électrique comportant un compartiment anodique au niveau d'une de ses extrémités et un compartiment cathodique au niveau de l'autre extrémité de ladite unité, et une pluralité de compartiments de dilution qui alternent avec des compartiments de concentration délimités par des membranes échangeuses d'anions et de cations. Chacun des compartiments de dilution contient une matière échangeuse d'ions. Il est important que cette matière échangeuse d'ions comporte au moins une phase de lits mélangés de la matière échangeuse d'anions et de la matière échangeuse de cations et au moins une phase unique, adjacente à la phase de lits mélangés, de matière échangeuse d'anions ou de matière échangeuse de cations, ou d'une matière échangeuse d'anions et échangeuses de cations.
