In an apparatus for removal by suction of the charging gases that form during charging of a coke oven battery with coal using a larry car with a transfer device arranged on a larry car that can be connected to a neighbouring oven chamber, the charging gas emissions are reduced with relatively limited technical expenditure and minimal operating costs in that known charging telescopes with annular gap chambers (5, 6, 7 and 8) or the like are provided for preferably all the charging holes of the coke oven chamber being charged, that the annular gap chambers or the like are connected via a preferably single charging gas collection line to a preferably single transfer telescope (21) and that the preferably single transfer telescope is arranged in a position on the larry car that permits fluid connection of the transfer telescope to a preferably single charging hole in the neighbouring oven chamber.
