Method and apparatus are disclosed for embossing paper webs (200) using opposing embossing and imprinting rolls (500, 502). In the preferred embodiment, the embossing roll (500) and the imprinting roll (502) have differing diametrical dimensions, thereby producing differing velocities through the nip, causing the embossing projections (104), of the embossing roll (500) to sweep through modified imprint cells (120) of the imprint roll (502), thereby affecting an automatic sweeping of accumulated debris (170) from the imprinting cell (120) as the embossing operation takes place.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour gaufrer des bandes continues de papier (200) au moyen d'un rouleau gaufreur (500) et d'un rouleau de presse (502) opposés. Dans une forme de réalisation préférée, le rouleau gaufreur (500) et le rouleau de presse (502) présentent des dimensions diamétrales différentes qui leur permettent de tourner à des vitesses différentes au niveau de la ligne de contact. Les projections de gaufrage (104) du rouleau gaufreur (500) sont ainsi entraînées à travers des alvéoles d'empreinte modifiées (120) du rouleau de presse (502) pour les débarrasser automatiquement des débris accumulés (170) pendant l'opération de gaufrage.
