IMPROVED METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR EMBOSSING PLASTIC FILM Abstract of the Disclosure A method and apparatus for embossing thermoplastic material, particularly thin, flexible, thermoplastic film. A length of preformed thermoplastic film is fed through a zone of heated air to raise the temperature of the film above its softening point. The zone of heated air is provided by two opposed hot air ovens having external means for heating and recirculating air through the ovens. After the film exits from the hot air ovens, it is fed between opposed, counter-rotating, embossing rolls thereby embossing a pattern onto the film. The rolls are cooled to fix the embossed pattern onto the film. The embossed film has little or no tendency to curl, has good moduli, low surface gloss or light reflectance, deep embossed pattern, high tensile strength and high impact strength.
