An Encoder Assisted Frame Rate Up Conversion (EA-FRUC) system that utilizes video coding and pre-processing operations at the video encoder to exploit the FRUC processing that will occur in the decoder in order to improve compression efficiency and reconstructed video quality is disclosed. One operation of the EA-FRUC system involves determining whether to encode a frame in a sequence of frames of a video content by determining a spatial activity in a frame of the sequence of frames; determining a temporal activity in the frame; determining a spatio-temporal activity in the frame based on the determined spatial activity and the determined temporal activity; determining a level of a redundancy in the source frame based on at least one of the determined spatial activity, the determined temporal activity, and the determined spatio-temporal activity; and, encoding the non-redundant information in the frame if the determined redundancy is within predetermined thresholds.
L'invention concerne un système d'élévation de la fréquence de trames assistée par un codeur (EA-FRUC) qui utilise des opérations de codage vidéo et de pré-traitement au niveau du codeur vidéo afin d'exploiter le traitement d'élévation de la fréquence de trames qui a lieu dans le décodeur et d'améliorer ainsi le rendement de la compression et la qualité vidéo reconstruite. Une opération du système EA-FRUC consiste à déterminer s'il faut coder une trame dans une séquence de trames d'un contenu vidéo en déterminant une activité spatiale dans une trame de la séquence de trames ; à déterminer une activité temporelle dans la trame ; à déterminer une activité spatio-temporelle dans la trame sur la base de l'activité spatiale déterminée et de l'activité temporelle déterminée ; à déterminer un niveau de redondance dans la trame source sur la base d'au moins l'activité spatiale déterminée, l'activité temporelle déterminée et l'activité temporelle déterminée ; et à coder les informations non redondantes dans la trame si la redondance déterminée est comprise dans des seuils prédéterminés.
