13 METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENGRAVING A MARK ON PLANE OR CURVED SURFACES Abstract: An apparatus and method for engraving selected indicia into surfaces of structures (18) for identification purposes comprising a stencil (9) , and a scribe (16) with a hard point . The stencil consists of a stencil body (10) made of a durable, flexible material having a pressure sensitive adhesive backing (14) for the purpose of securing the stencil to the surface to be marked during the engraving operation. After the stencil (9) is affixed to the surface to be marked (18), the engraving is accomplished by manually moving the tip of the engraving scribe (16) within the indicia apertures (12) of the stencil, thereby engraving the surface with marks corresponding to the indicia apertures.
